ChatGPT Down for Hours on Day 6 of 12 Days of OpenAI

ChatGPT, along with other OpenAI services, is down in the middle of their 12 Christmas-themed live event, 12 days of OpenAI. Reports from users on Down Detector spiked when thousands of people reported it being down.

OpenAI’s ChatGPT, Sora, and APIs have been down since last night. While mobile app users may have little clue about what is happening, their website says, “ChatGPT is currently unavailable. Status: Identified – We have identified the issue and are working to roll out a fix.”

Downdetector, a website that allows users to submit reports when a website or service is down, spiked at 11:32 PM (GMT) Wednesday when about 26500 reported that ChatGPT has not worked for them.

India Today reported that this situation has affected subscribers of the new $200-a-month ChatGPT Pro plan. In their 12 Days of AI live event, Open AI also launched a video-generating AI called Sora and released Canvas, a collaboration interface for ChatGPT.

The OpenAI team posts updates on its website about the progress made in resolving this issue. We have yet to receive a statement from the OpenAI boss, Sam Altman.

This interruption occurred soon after Meta’s global outage, which has now been resolved. If you are looking for an alternative right now, Microsoft Copilot and Gemini are solid options until OpenAI completes the fix.
